Where I’m at. . .part deux

Approximately five hundred words from the end of the last chapter. The finish line in sight.

This week: revise, revise, revise. Fill in all the gaps. Clean up the bibliography. A personal essayish afterward I’m looking forward to writing because I’ve been mentally composing it for a while.

Goal: Send it in Friday, on deadline.

People feel differently about revision, I know, but I love it. The hard part, for me, is over. I like to tinker. Well, except for the bibliography; I’d love it if that cleaned itself up but it’s not going to.

Ah. The home stretch. I’ll keep you posted.

Bye y’all,
SV

Where I’m at. . .

The recognition that I needed to write a great deal of this weekend to catch myself up and make my deadline resulted, of course, in a fair amount of procrastination, cleaning my work area, planting lambs ears and phlox (geez it’s hot already) and finally, typing, printing and mounting the following above my desk:

The Balloon of the Mind

Hands, do what you’re bid.

Bring the balloon of the mind

That bellies and drags in the wind

Into its narrow shed.

WB Yeats

Thanks, WB.  Four hours later, at least I’m halfway toward my goal and it’s finally quitting time (for today). May the Irish bard inspire anyone reading this. . .

Bye y’all,

SV

Monda nails it, a-gain!

null

So I’ve been laying low awhile.  I’m trying to make this June 4 deadline for my book and plan the writing project summer institute at the same time.  The writing is going s-l-o-w-l-y but it’s going and I’m going to make this deadline by hook or by crook.

Between that and all the end-of-year festivities for my kids–talent show, band concert, black holes presentation–my time has been stre-e-e-tched thin.  But while watching Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel tonight (family movie night but hey, I have to stay awake) I decided to try and catch up.

Most important news for all you writers out there.  Monda Fason, whose achievements appear regularly on this blog, has done it again!  Her blog,  www.easystreetprompts.blogspot.com, one of the 3! she maintains, has been featured in the Writer’s Digest 101 Best Websites for Writers!!!

O. M. G.!  I don’t always read WD, but this is an issue I NEVER miss because I need to stay up to date on these sites for myself AND my students.

And there she is.  In the # 3 slot, no less.  And I knew her when.  I’ve even traveled to Branson with her.  Many times.

Especially for those of you who TEACH creative writing, or writers who need that extra boost of inspiration you can’t get anywhere else–this is your go to site. Go!
